The program featured insights on: • Galactose as an overlooked nutrient and its role in human nutrition. • Human galactose uptake and regulation. • Galactose and lactose in glycemic control in health and diabetes. 🔬 Science update! A clinical trial has demonstrated health benefits of our casein glycomacropeptide (CGMP) ingredient, Lacprodan® CGMP-20, for the dietary management of phenylketonuria (PKU) in children. In the trial, PKU children aged 4-9 years consumed PKU sphere® from VitafloTM with Lacprodan® CGMP-20 thrice, daily for 12 weeks. Compared to traditional Phe-free amino acid-based substitutes, PKU sphere® showed statistically significant improvements in several gastrointestinal symptoms. Such benefits may have a positive impact on quality of life and adherence to dietary management of PKU. Although the use of PKU sphere® was associated with higher blood spot Phe levels, the median level was within the recommended range. In those children who have classical PKU with very low Phe tolerance, the researchers would welcome the development of CGMP with an even lower Phe level.
