Talking Point Issue 44

Our responsibility to the children. Milk is one of the best sources of nutrition for our children as they grow. This places a heavy responsibility on our shoulders when we produce dairy ingredients that are used in children’s food products. Our processes must preserve all the natural goodness of our raw material and, at the same time, ensure impeccable food safety right up to the moment of consumption.

In August, we highlighted our commitment to high quality infant nutrition with the start-up of our new joint venture factory in Germany. Along with whey protein concentrate, the plant is equipped to produce premium quality dry-blend lactose – meeting the stringent quality demands of the infant formula industry.

Today, the quality requirements of the infant formula industry are setting the standard for all our products. This calls for continuous investment. As I write, only a few days have passed since we announced our decision to build a new whey protein hydrolysate factory in response to growing demand from the infant, sports and clinical nutrition sectors.

Another important project has taken us to Ethiopia, where along with our partners in a new Nordic initiative, we are looking at ways to support the local dairy value chain and alleviate malnutrition among children up to the age of two. We believe our processing expertise and whey ingredients could play a role.

All the best
