Global statistics tell an alarming tale about the impact of high blood sugar levels on human health. The World Health Organization, for example, ranks high blood sugar third in the top ten of risk factors linked to 33% of deaths worldwide. Hyperglycaemia, as it’s also known, hits all income groups - high, middle and low – and is typically brought on by age, obesity and inactive lifestyles.
Hyperglycemia affects people with diabetes because they do not produce enough insulin (Type 1), or because their body does not respond as it should to insulin (Type 2).
Global food and beverages product launches targeting blood glucose control* have increased 16.8% CAGR from 2010 to 20161 . This growth has been driven by the concerning health risks of high blood glucose levels, combined with consumers’ general preference for foods over drugs, due to the numerous side-effects of medications. Ready to drink (RTD) new product launches for blood glucose control have also experienced a healthy growth with 15,7% CAGR over the same period of time. These blood glucose control RTD products are mostly focused on the total amount of fibers as well as the Glycemic Index (GI) of the carbohydrates. However, new clinical evidence suggests that whey proteins have a positive effect on blood glucose control, and this discovery has been the inspiration for our new suggested small drink for blood glucose control.
