Affordable dairy drink for children and women in Zambia
GAIN Nordic project aims to reduce child malnutrition and stunting
Malnutrition is widespread in Zambia, where around 40% of children suffer the effects of stunting. To help address this situation, a GAIN Nordic Partnership project is underway to develop a sustainable business model for local production of an affordable and nutritious long-life drink, based on milk ingredients.
A Zambian Good Food logo will support the marketing and sale of the product, which is intended for launch by the end of 2020 and will target women and children.
Our contribution at Arla Foods Ingredients is to develop the affordable drink, ensure it satisfies local tastes and train staff at the Zambian dairy Finta Farms that will produce it. Another GAIN partner, Tetra Pak, will provide the UHT technology.
GAIN and the SUN Business Network in Zambia are the non-commercial partners. They will play a crucial role in bringing the product to market and building consumer demand.
