Affordable nutrition

Partnerships for affordable nutrition
Inadequate nutrition is a constant challenge for low-income families living on a few dollars a day. For many, the priority is to buy the most filling foods they can afford to avoid everyday hunger. Their staple diet often lacks essential nutrients as a result.

At Arla Foods Ingredients, we work with key external partners to develop models for sustainable food systems that target low-income families in developing countries. These collaborative projects focus on building knowledge about the impact of whey nutrients on health, combining expertise to stimulate local value chains, and implementing capability training and awareness campaigns to empower local business ventures.

Each project is aligned with our commitment to responsible business conduct. This focuses on identifying risks to avoid unintentional negative impacts and only initiating activities when we are sure of their potential to make a long-term positive difference. Our ultimate goal is to create well-documented models that can be scaled up and transferred to other countries, where supply chains for affordable nutrition are a need.

Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to UN sustainable development goals 2, 8, 12 and 17.
