The neutral taste and pleasant mouthfeel of whey protein isolate (WPI) makes it a perfect choice for sports and clinical nutrition. Obtained by extracting fat and lactose from whey, WPI contains 90% or more protein, as little as 0.2% fat and just 0.2-0.5% lactose.
WPI provides unique functionality. Used in applications with an acidic pH, WPI is clear in solution and stable at high temperature – an obvious advantage in clear, acidified drinks.
Arla Foods Ingredients’ WPI products are marketed as Lacprodan®.
Clinical nutrition
In clinical nutrition, WPI is an excellent protein source for consumers with poor lactose tolerance who need to prevent muscle wasting.
Functional foods
High protein intake effectively suppresses the appetite. Dietary supplementation with WPI is proven to promote successful weight management diets.
Infant nutrition
WPI are rich in essential amino acids but low in lactose, the predominant carbohydrate in milk. That makes them an ideal protein source for infants with lactose intolerance. Our Lacprodan® WPI are suitable for lactose-free or lactose-reduced infant formula.

Sports nutrition
Athletes can look to sports drinks containing WPI to promote muscle strength, muscle mass and recovery. As part of a balanced diet, WPI improves lean body weight and, due to its ability to raise the level of glutathione in the body, contributes to increased performance.
