Milk fat globules are surrounded by a double-layered phospholipid membrane made up of extremely bioactive components. Arla Foods Ingredients produces LACPRODAN® MFGM-10, a naturally based whey protein concentrate enriched with particles components of milk fat globular membrane.
Infant nutrition
The phospholipids that are the main building blocks of MFGM have similar profiles in both bovine and human milk. MFGM proteins associated with the phospholipid membrane have documented anti-pathogenic effects and are known to stimulate intestinal maturation.
Other highly active components in MFGM include gangliosides, which are also present in body tissues, particularly the brain. Ganglioside levels are greater in the brain tissue of breast-fed infants than in the brains of formula-fed infants, which suggests that they play a role in neuro development. Gangliosides are also thought to improve intestinal immune maturation and microflora.
Health and performance
Arla Foods Ingredients’ LACPRODAN® MFGM-10 has a unique protein and liquid profile. LACPRODAN® MFGM-10 contains several bioactive compounds, such as lactoferrin, alpha-lactalbumin, IgG casein glyco macropeptides, sialic acid and phospholipids. These make LACPRODAN® MFGM-10 unique in the area of natural defence against gut-derived infections, because of its efficacy through several mechanisms such as antiviral and antibacterial effects.
