President praises value creation at whey processing plant

With one push of a button Argentina’s president Cristina Kirchner launched production at the new spray-drying tower at the Arla Foods Ingredients whey processing plant in Córdoba, 600km northeast of Buenos Aires.
Television viewers all over the country watched the live coverage of the tower inauguration, where the president spoke of the need for Argentina to invest more in the production of value-added products.
says Bjarne Schack Pedersen, managing director of Arla Foods Ingredients S. A.
Green gain
The president also applauded the reduced environmental burden that comes from processing whey rather than discarding it.
Accompanying the president were her ministers for industry and agriculture and around 600 other guests, including the governors of Santa Fe and Córdoba. The name of SanCor, Arla Foods Ingredients’ joint venture partner and main supplier of raw whey in Argentina, is drawn from these two provinces.
Response to growth
The USD 35 million investment in the plant’s second spray-drying tower – which has an annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes – is a response to ongoing business growth in South America. It makes Arla Foods Ingredients the first whey processor in the region with the capability to produce premium, free-flowing permeate, along with functional milk proteins for food applications such as ice cream and chocolate.
