Big wins in new territory
Functional milk proteins still have great potential in South America – ten years on
Business has never been better in South America. In the ten years since Arla Foods Ingredients established a joint venture with Argentine dairy company, SanCor, the region’s food manufacturers have steadily come to appreciate the benefits of functional milk proteins. “The joint venture was established during a period of tough financial crisis in Argentina. Despite the conditions, we have experienced strong growth and now look forward to even better results following the recent doubling of our plant’s capacity,” says Henrik Andersen, Arla Foods Ingredients CEO. The green field of success What was once a green field in Córdoba, 600km north-east of Buenos Aires, is today the site of the sophisticated whey processing plant – driven by Arla Foods Ingredients know-how and fed with whey raw materials from SanCor and other local dairies. Innovative solutions are developed with the support of the application centres in Buenos Aires and at Arla Foods Ingredients head office in Denmark. The launch of the Twintell® Application Programme in 2009 has bolstered the ability to make a prompt, efficient response to customer needs. ”Thanks to our joint venture with SanCor, we have enjoyed the benefits of operating in a region where markets such as Brazil are in a period of long-term development,” Andersen concludes.
