The world was only just waking up to the great functional and nutritional potential of whey proteins when newly appointed operating engineer Hans Jørgen Lauridsen joined the team at Arla Foods Ingredients’ whey processing plant in Denmark. That was in 1988. Since then, the milk-based ingredients business has grown by leaps and bounds, and Hans-Jørgen has never looked back.

A passion for projects
Project management has always been a passion. On his appointment at Arla Foods Ingredients, he was put in charge of implementing the investments that, by 1990, had doubled the plant’s processing capacity.
Following a decade as plant director at the whey processing plant and another Arla site, today Hans-Jørgen is project director in the business development department. The major project that occupies him now is the construction of the new whey processing plant resulting from the Arla Foods Ingredients’ joint venture agreement with Germany’s largest dairy company, DMK.

Dynamic spirit
The many steps and milestones involved in project management make it easy to measure results. Hans Jørgen is never in doubt that his work is valued. With many enthusiastic, innovative colleagues around him, he enjoys the dynamic spirit, the possibilities to try new things and the fact that curiosity is seen as a virtue.

Now that his two sons are grown up, a round of golf with his wife, friends or, occasionally, colleagues is a favourite spare-time activity. Despite the many long days in Germany on his current project, there is still the freedom to relax.
