Arla Foods develops protein bar for 7-Eleven

7-Eleven has launched a new protein bar developed by Arla Foods, which offers a healthier alternative to standard chocolate bars

The new product differs from other protein bars by being less heavy and chewy owing to its content of Nu-trilac, Arla Foods’ own protein, which makes for a light and airy consistency. Besides the low fat and high protein and calcium content, Arla Foods Ingredients has also succeeded in giving the bar a great taste and a longer shelf-life without affecting its consistency.

“The new protein bar will appeal to people who are after a slightly healthier alternative to a chocolate bar,” says Anders Steen Jørgensen, Business Area Manager, Arla Foods Ingredients, who has been involved in developing the protein bar and has high expectations for it.

“We take a global approach to product development. In this case, we noted a trend towards a rising de-mand for protein bars in the US. We expect this trend to hit Denmark before long and with this new protein bar we’re well prepared,” says Anders Steen Jørgensen.

The bar comes in a chocolate/caramel flavour and will cost DKK 20. During the launch period, however, there is a special campaign price of two bars for DKK 30.

“Most of our customers are people who eat on the hoof,” says Jesper Østergaard, Managing Director, Reitan Servicehandel, who run 7-Eleven Denmark. “We’re already seeing a great deal of interest in pro-tein bars with a reduced fat content as an alternative to classic chocolate bars. Consequently, we’re look-ing forward to introducing our 61,000 daily customers to this new and exciting product.”
